Rob Stuart started at Telstar in 1997 and quickly rose to Promotions Manager. Having no real catalogue of artists to barter with, the A&R and promotions team at Telstar had to work far harder to make their roster work. This had its advantages as they ended up building up a vast network of contacts in radio and clubland which were to prove very useful a few years down the line.
In 1999 Wildstar Records signed Craig David. Rob, alongside A&R manager Billy Grant, orchestrated the Urban A&R and promotion for Craig on the multi-million selling album “Born to do it” including the two No 1 singles “Fill me in” and “Seven days”. They were responsible for introducing Craig in the studio with a number of up-and-coming British Urban producers including Sunship, Full Crew, Blacksmith and Ignorants as well as setting up a phenomenal promotional campaign, which firmly established Craig as the leading Urban artist in the UK.
In December 2000, Mis Teeq were signed and Rob was responsible for establishing a strategy for ‘Lickin on both sides’ which boasted FIVE Top 10 singles. This firmly established Mis Teeq as one of the leading female British Urban acts to date.
Rob left Telstar Records in late 2002 to set up 2Point9 with Billy Grant and since then has meticulously built the careers of a number of artists including Jay Sean, Rishi Rich, Juggy D, Veronica and Mentor.
Setting up 2Point9 has added a new dimension to Rob’s knowledge. After successful careers in promotion, working with some of the UK’s biggest-selling artists, he is now managing every single facet of a record label as well as managing artists. That experience has proved invaluable and has enabled him to successfully analyse and strategise a number of outside projects. In addition, his ability to adapt to the constantly changing music environment has been crucial.
In 2007 Rob was cited in a Guardian newspaper ‘Power List’ as one of the Top 30 most important ethnic minority figures in the media industry.
